Why do I need a web page?
The reasons for having a web site are as varied as the individuals that desire them. The need for a web site can't be disputed. Internet advertising far exceeds any other advertising at the present time. Unlike your standard newspaper or phone book ad, a web site can contain an unlimited amount of information at a fraction of the price, and is accessible by millions world wide.
Any aspect of your site can be updated monthly, weekly, or even daily, to have current information for your readers. This information can be accessed with a click of a button from around the entire globe, 24 hours a day. Statistics show that there are over 300 million people on the Internet today. Those numbers speak for themselves.

What is a Domain Name?
A domain name is your web address. When someone types your domain name into a web browser, your web pages will open. Behind the scenes, the domain name is actually pointing to a physical location- a server- that holds your web page files.

Can I register any domain name I want?
You may register any domain name you want, up to a point. Your domain name must be unique because it is an address that can point only to your web site. Additionally, you cannot register a domain name that is trademarked by another company or is so similar to a trademark that it is confusing or easily mistaken for the trademark. Recent disputes with ICANN have made it clear that a domain name registered in bad faith or with no legitimate interests in the domain name will result in a dispute.

What if my domain name is taken?
If your domain name is taken, you must register another domain name. Each domain name must be unique. You may want to check for variations of your domain name. For example, if you wanted "www.myweb.com", you may want to see if "myweb.net" or "myweb.org" are available. Variations of the spelling or word order may help you choose a new domain name.

What do the different domain name extensions mean?
An extension, or Top Level Domain (TLD), is the highest-level category of Internet names. The domain name space is divided into several TLDs. The extensions .com, .net and .org are called "generic" domains because they are not affiliated with any country. These types of generic domains are unrestricted-this means anyone from anywhere can register as many .com, .net or .org domain names as they like. Recently introduced TLD's like .info and .biz are examples of global Top Level Domains (gTLDs). The extensions .tv from Tuvalu) and .ws (from Western Samoa) are examples of country code Top Level Domains (ccTLDs). Separate registry authorities in 192 countries operate the ccTLDs. Unrestricted country-specific domain names allow anyone from anywhere to register a domain name just like .com, .net and .org. Some ccTLDs have been opened by their respective countries to anyone looking for a creative alternative to a gTLD. For example, .tv is now available for anyone who might want their Web extension to mean "television." And .ws is open to anyone who might want their Web extension to mean "Web site." Some ccTLDs have restrictions on the name and amount you can register -- often a local presence is required to register a name.

How do domain names work?
A domain name is very similar to an address forwarding service. The domain is the address that people type in their web browser. The domain then points to the "real" address that contains your web site. The "real" address is the address of your location on the server that contains your web site files and is called the IP address. The reason the IP address is not used is because it is a series of numbers. For most, this would be very difficult to remember. Instead, a domain name, made up of letters and words is used.

What are search engines?
Basically, search engines are web sites where you can type in words and phrases called "key words" to help you find what you're looking for on the Internet. It is important to register your domain name on 5 -10 of the most popular search engines. Some search engines offer this as a free service, but more and more of them are now starting to charge a one-time submission fee. Some of the more popular search engines are Google, Yahoo, Lycos, Excite, and Alta Vista. There is no guarantee that your site will show up at the top of the list of search results.

How does my site get listed in search engines?
Most of the search engines have a website submission process located somewhere on their site, after which they will look at the requested website and then index it inside their search databases. Furthermore, if you give CLS a list of key words that pertain to your site, we can encode them (hidden) into your website, allowing these search engines even more ability to properly index your website.
